Artists in Residence

We believe that experience of working directly with practising artists is hugely beneficial to pupils. Therefore, the department delivers a programme of visiting artists and artists in residence in order to inspire and broaden the experience, disciplines and skills offered at all key stages.

In September 2008 the Icon painter Helen McIldowie-Jenkins is scheduled to introduce GCSE Art and Key Stage 3 students to her work and instruct them in medieval icon painting and gilding techniques as part of the school's 50th Anniversary Celebrations. For information about Helen click here.

The Textile artist, Martha Steadman, who is currently working with Alexander McQueen, regularly conducts weekend and holiday workshops in free arm embroidery, weaving, fabric transfer and recycled fashion.

Textile artist and teacher, Judith Devine has this year conducted workshops in silk painting, embellishment, felting and batik with Year 10 and 11 students.

Graphic Artist - Clare Dickinson, has tutored exam candidates in the digital manipulation of works in order to produce graphic patterns and outcomes for the past two years,

Artist in residence - Ron Brown has worked with us in his capacity as a ceramicist during the past two years. Ron has conducted practical workshops with children in both infants and junior departments of the school, resulting in individual clay sections being combined to create large collaborative pots and wind chimes currently exhibited in the school gardens.
