Athletics
The popularity and success of Athletics is growing at the Cathedral School and there has been a great spirit of competition in recent years.
In PE lessons, pupils' participation and success in the UK Athletics Norwich Union Shine Awards leads to the award of a Yellow, Green, Blue, Bronze, Silver or Gold Award, depending on results achieved. Not only does this provide an opportunity for our athletes to compete against each other, but taking part gives the incentive to improve personal performance and achieve individual potential.
Our season includes a number of fixtures against other independent schools and the season culminates in the Schools County Athletics Competition, which brings all the best athletes in the area together and allows our athletes to gauge their ability against the very best opposition. We also give our athletes the opportunity to take part in the Schools Cross Country Leagues where success leads to representative honours at county level. One of the most popular events in the School calendar is the Gould Cup & Willis Plate cross-country competition. Every pupil from Years 4 to Year 11 compete through the village of Llandaff for one of the most traditional titles in the School's history.
Annually, we also hold a very popular Inter-House Athletics Championship at National Indoor Athletics Centre at UWIC. This competition rounds off the season and is always a day of great competition, sportsmanship and determination.
