Cathedral School U16 Rugby team win Cardiff Schools Cup

The Cathedral School’s U16 Rugby team has secured a 40-19 victory over Radyr Comprehensive School to win the Cardiff Schools Cup.

Playing at Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday, the Cathedral School team played a wide and expansive game to take the title, following a tough and very even first half.

This win comes on the back of winning the West of England’s Sevens Tournament last weekend.

Mr Mark Barrington, Director of Sport at the Cathedral School said: “This is a very talented team of players who give 100% to training and their fixtures. Training up to five times a week, they have worked hard to balance a busy Sevens schedule with their 15-a-side commitments, as well as ensuring they keep up to date with their school work. The U16 squad also includes four Year 10 pupils, demonstrating the talent coming through from younger year groups.

“We are all very proud of the boys’ success which is very much deserved.

Solomon H, Captain of the U16s added: “The support we received leading up to the game and on Saturday was fantastic and made it all the more worthwhile when the final whistle went and we won the cup.

“Playing on the Cardiff Arms Park pitch was a real privilege. We worked hard as a team and the effort we had put into our training sessions really paid off.”

Next week, the U16 team will head to the Rosslyn Park Sevens and hopes are high for continued success, having been crowned U15 Welsh Schools Sevens Champions last year.
