Second Games

Team games are an essential part of the Sports curriculum at the Cathedral School.  However, the School recognises that some pupils are more inclined and would prefer to participate in more individual types of activities.   Therefore, a programme of "Second Games", has been developed to ensure that each pupil benefits inclusively and fully through sport during their time at the School.

Beyond Year 8 pupils have the choice, on a termly basis, to sign up for a second game activity from a diverse selection of available activities.   The pupil may choose a brand new sport or continue to develop their skills in activities they have previously experienced.  Due to the opportunities this initiative provides The Cathedral School currently boasts a British Champion Oarsman and British Record Holder.

To provide this opportunity to our pupils the School uses a large number of local facilities allowing our pupils to experience the community and vice versa.  The activities may run throughout the year or for a specific term.  The types of activities that the pupils may experience are:

  • Athletics
  • Badminton
  • Climbing
  • Cycling
  • Dry slope skiing
  • Fencing
  • Five-a-side football
  • Golf
  • Horse riding
  • Kayaking
  • Life-guarding
  • Mountain Biking
  • Rowing
  • Sailing
  • Sevens
  • Squash
  • Tennis
  • Weight training
