Facilities & Coaching
The impressive on-site sports fields confirm the significance of sport at the Cathedral School. There are four rugby pitches marked during the Michaelmas term, one rugby pitch and three football pitches prepared for the Lent term and a superb cricket square, incorporated within a 200m athletics track utilised in the Summer term. Hockey fixtures and practice generally take place at artificial off-site facilities. A large sports-hall stocked with markings for four badminton courts, a basketball, tennis, volleyball and netball court, a five-a-side football/hockey pitch and cricket nets is also within the School grounds.
The delivery of sports coaching to the pupils is one of the areas with which the School is most proud. The staffing of games activities is exceptionally generous so individual needs of each pupil can be addressed. Making use of the experience of its own staff as well as professional sports coaches (including coaches from UWIC's highly respected School of Sports Science) ensures that every child realises and fulfils their potential. As a result, all sport is played at a high standard on a local and national stage.
The School also makes use of local facilities to accommodate a vast number of other activities available to its pupils. These include the Welsh Institute of Sport, UWIC, Llandaff Rowing Club and Cardiff Squash Club.
