Junior Section Facilities
The Juniors are housed predominantly in the Gloucester Building. It is fronted by a green lawn incorporating beautiful trees to the side, which makes the building attractive and pleasing to the eye. At the rear of the Building lies a small garden which is maintained by the Junior pupils with the assistance of the school grounds staff. Years 3 and 4 are located on the ground floor, which enables the teaching staff of these forms to work closely with each other. The rooms are spacious and are very well resourced. Traditional whiteboards are used as well as interactive whiteboards, together with a variety of other resources to aid effective tacking. Years 5 and 6 are situated on the first floor, again in spacious classrooms. Similarly to the set up with the younger Juniors, the senior juniors and teaching staff work closely with each other and enjoy similar resources.
Careful timetabling enables all Junior pupils to enjoy the use of a superb purpose built science laboratory, which enables the pupils to participate in experimental as well as observational science. The laboratory is very well resourced and helped maintained by a science technician. In addition, the juniors also benefit from the use of a purpose built ICT suite which enables all pupils to have the use of a computer each, which has access to the Internet. A specialist ICT teacher ensures the facilities are well maintained and the ICT support team is constantly on hand to ensure any technical difficulties are addressed immediately. The Juniors are fortunate enough to also have the use of their own library, which holds a variety of suitable reading material appropriate to the age range. The Junior Librarian ensues all stock is categorised, kept updated and replenished when necessary.
Those Junior pupils receiving extra tuition from the Learning Support Department hold their lessons in the wing of the Gloucester Building, which is a quiet, peaceful and undisturbed area of the School
Adjacent to the Gloucester Building is the Lodge in which is housed the Art Department. All Juniors are taught Art and Design and Technology in this building, which is superbly resourced.
The Juniors also share and enjoy the same facilities as the Senior pupils when being taught PE and Games (through the use of the Sports Hall or the extensive playing fields), Drama and Music. The Jubilee Building is superbly resourced and it is where school concerts, plays/productions and assemblies are held. The Roald Dahl Studio can accommodate an attendance of over 200 people at these functions. Music, Drama and Ballet lessons are taught in the Jubilee Building.
The children are provided with a healthy nutritious diet, which is varied and carefully chosen by the School Catering Manager and his team. Separate diets as well as an understanding of other religious faiths as well as allergies are catered for.
The Junior pupils use the playground in front of the Main House and the Tennis Court. When the weather is pleasant, the pupils use the Grassed areas at the rear of The Main House and/or the playing Fields.
Clearly, the use of excellent facilities in the Gloucester Building in its own right, as well as the use of other superb facilities in the School, makes for the provision of sound learning to take place.
As the School is located in the heart of Llandaff Village, the Junior pupils can benefit from visits to the Cathedral, the Taff Trail and Riverbank walks as well as the High Street. The Rowing Club is in close proximity.
