Junior Section
The Junior Section, pupils aged 7-11 years, enjoys a strong reputation and has its own unique identity within the school, and yet it is a part of the whole. Concerts are varied and plentiful and a Musical Production is also performed each year. The Juniors have their own Christmas concert, Carol Service held in the Cathedral, Sports Day, Swimming Gala and Prize-Giving Day. In addition, the pupils embark on a number of educational visits both near and far each year. The Juniors support a number of initiatives for charity and help raise a great deal of money for various good causes. All Pupils have the opportunity to participate in a number of sports and pastimes and from Year 4 to represent the school in sports such as netball, hockey, football, cricket, rugby and athletics. Elected representatives from each class form the Junior School Council which meets fortnightly to discuss things that concern their peers and to investigate ways of implementing new proposed initiatives. The Juniors have their own Head Boy and Girl. In addition, six Prefects are elected each year.
The day-to-day management of the Junior Section is the responsibility of Bret Garland, Deputy Headmaster. He is supported in this by section tutors Leah Crew and Gavin Roberts, child protection officer Jo Dinsmore and lay chaplain Kevin Scot.
You can download the speech made by Bret Garland at the Prize Giving ceremony in July 2008, which offers an insight into life in the Junior Section. The best way to learn about the Juniors is to come and visit for yourself: to arrange your visit please phone Pam Critcher at the school.
