Associated Board and Trinity/Guildhall Examinations

Music examinations are a part of the curriculum and many pupils take these to a very high standard, often gaining grades six to eight with very high marks. They are not obligatory as some pupils prefer to learn their instruments without the pressure of constant preparation for examinations although most are keen to take examinations at least occasionally in order to stay focussed on their work. They are helped in their preparation by teachers who are also examiners themselves and who know exactly what is required in the different parts of the examination. All candidates are given the opportunity to rehearse as much as they need with their accompanist, who is also a member of the music department staff.
