Primary Eisteddfod

01 March 2024
Primary Eisteddfod

From Welsh folk songs and action rhymes to poetry recital and the very exciting chairing of the bard, all our pupils had the opportunity to take part and perform in our Primary Eisteddfodau. Thank you to everyone that entered the class competitions and for the support given from home. The Infant section has been awash with beautiful daffodils, detailed dragon collages and puppets, and striking photographs from around Wales.

Pupils in our Early Years performed traditional Welsh songs including Mynda ar y Ceffyl, Clap, Clap, Un, Dau, Tri and Lliwiau Enfys. Our Key Stage One pupils presented a rousing version of the much loved Sosban Fach and Mrs Wishi Washi, whilst pupils in Year 2 showcased their choral presentation of Can you see the dragon?. Congratulations go to all our competition finalists including our Infant bard, Clementine J, for the performance of their poem, My Dragon. Mr Hemley faced a very difficult decision arriving at the final result following the confident presentations from our Year 2 pupils. Well done, everyone!

Pupils in our Junior Section were treated to some majestic performances from our soloists and instrumental competitors from our houses of Coombes, Guys, Vaughans and Wains. Though each participant was from a different house, it was heartwarming to hear the support given to all competitors from the other pupils. Following the musical items, our poetry recitals took place with our finalists demonstrating a wonderful control of the spoken word to take the audience with them on their poetic journey. Our Bardic Shield winner was Felix B from Year 6 with their poem Gran Can you Rap by Jack Ousby. Approaching the final event scores were to close to call and following the house singing the winners of this year’s Eisteddfod were Coombes. Congratulations to all our competitors and a huge thanks to our judges Mrs Moore (Old Llandavian 1995-2006) and Mrs Williams.
