Infants (Ages 4-7) Pastoral Care

We believe the relationship between home and school is central to the successful education of children in the Cathedral School.  Every child is treated with kindness and respect and supported in every aspect of school life.  Each class has an experienced teacher and a teaching assistant qualified in child care.  They, along with all the other staff in the department, develop strong links with parents and carers, getting to know them and working with them at all times.

Good communication is essential and is encouraged!  Staff are available at the beginning and end of the day to discuss any issues from the smallest worry to serious problems.  A ‘Home-School' book provides a medium for notes to be sent between home and school on any subject.  Formal meetings and consultations can be quickly arranged and regular Parents' Evenings and Reports also reinforce the flow of information.

The Cathedral School is a Christian community and we believe in encouraging and developing the children's ability to work together happily, supporting each other and treating all members of the school with respect.  We use praise to reinforce this, rewarding good behaviour, kindness, thoughtfulness and hard work.  We recognise and encourage good manners and courtesy.  We celebrate achievements both in and outside school and encourage each child to share anything of which they are proud.

When the need arises, problems are discussed with the children and sanctions are only given after warnings and explanations as to why behaviour is not acceptable.  Problems are always treated with sensitivity and out of genuine concern for the child.
