Senior Section Facilities
At the Cathedral School we are blessed with a prime site with extensive sports fields adjacent to Llandaff Cathedral and the peaceful Llandaff village. We are consequently able to house our Nursery, Infant, Junior and Senior Section facilities on this single campus. This is a brief description of the facilities we have in the Senior Section.
School House
Originally an Eighteenth Century Mansion commissioned by an admiral, then the residence of the bishop, School House was by turns an American military headquarters then a hall of residence for St Michael's College before becoming our main school building in 1958. This beautiful, stately building is now our main classroom block for the Senior Section. It also houses the Hulland Seminar Room, the Refectory, the Senior Library and two newly refurbished IT suites. It is connected to our School Chapel, the oldest part of our site, where we hold year group assemblies and daily services before School starts.
Jubilee Building
Opened to coincide with the Queen's Golden Jubilee, this splendid new building houses the School Reception, the purpose built dedicated laboratories for Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and the Headmaster's office as well as the Music Department. Here we have eight small rooms for individual instrument tuition, three large classrooms, a recording studio, secure storage for instruments and a fully equipped music technology room.
Directly above the Music Department stands the Roald Dahl Theatre, our main performance hall and drama studio. This is the venue for our School assemblies, drama productions and concerts. We also have a dedicated Speech and Drama Room.
Art Studios
In 2010 our new Art Studios in Llandaff village were opened by humanitarian, Mr Terry Waite. This new facility is on the site of the old Llandaff infant school, and its high roof and wonderful natural lighting offers an ideal setting for our artists. The split level main room includes state of the art computer facilities and excellent storage and display space.
Gloucester Building
This purpose built building mainly houses the Junior Section classrooms. However, we also have four dedicated tutorial rooms for our Learning Support department in this central part of the School.
Sports Hall
Right in the heart of our School stands our Sports Hall. It is a modern and versatile facility and allows us to play basketball, five a side football, indoor cricket, skittle ball and to do the normal gym disciplines and tests.
Sports Grounds
Adjacent to our site we are lucky enough to have our Sports Grounds. They are large enough for us to enjoy the traditional Games afternoons for large numbers of pupils, who play Rugby, football, cricket, hockey and netball. And we are close enough to Llandaff Rowing Club for us to be able to use their facilities, so rowing is fast becoming another major School sport.
Pavilion
In 2011 we opened our brand new purpose built Pavilion. This excellent new facility houses four changing rooms with modern communal showers, accesible changing facilities for the disabled, the office of the Director of PE and a staff changing room. There is a dedicated PE classroom on the first floor with a hospitality suite and a covered viewing gallery for rainy match afternoons!
