Senior Section

The Senior Section at the Cathedral School caters for boys and girls from 11 years of age. A traditional academic education, with sciences separately taught by specialists, along with a range of languages (Spanish as the lead compulsory language to GCSE, also German, French, Latin, and - through peripatetic lessons if arranged - Welsh), is delivered alongside very competitive sport (senior pupils have an unusually generous amount of time allocated to sport) and outstanding opportunities in the Arts. Please explore full details elsewhere on this website.

Examination results are excellent, the school being regularly placed in performance tables as the top achieving co-educational scvhool in Wales at GCSE, and at a very high ranking in UK-wide terms also.

Year 7 Entry September 2013 - Each year we offer approximately 20 places to external applicants from local primary and other independent schools wishing to join us in Year 7.

The process for application involves entrance tests, an interview with the Headmaster or one of the Deputy Heads, and a reference from the child's current school indicating that he/she has a positive attitude to study and school life.

Scholarships - We offer Academic, Sport and Music Scholarships for entry to the Senior Section of the School.  Please read the policy Bursaries and Scholarships for further information and guidance.  Application forms are available to download from the website or from the Registrar.  Sport and Music Scholarship candidates should return the relevant forms by Friday 11th January. (There is no need to apply for an Academic Scholarship as the entrance tests results are used to determine these awards).

Bursaries - To qualify for a means-tested bursary, pupils must be in receipt of a scholarship. We are only able to process bursary applications once results of the scholarships are known. Late applications may be considered.

To register for the entrance exam, or for further information, please contact the Registrar, Mrs Pam Critcher, either by e-mail  registrar@cathedral-school.co.uk or on 029 2083 8504.
