Junior Boys & Girls Sport
In the Junior Section at the Cathedral School we are very proud of our Physical Education and Games programmes. We make a provision that is inclusive of all experiences and abilities, but also challenges the more able to succeed at County and National level.
There is an extensive programme of inter-house fixtures and tournaments throughout the School. We regularly compete against a variety of schools in a number of sports and activities. We also compete in local tournaments, galas and other events at county and national levels. We encourage all children to participate in both lessons and after-school clubs. Commitments to weekly fixtures are expected and, as well as A team fixtures, we are proud to field many B and C teams.
Both the Games and P.E lessons are delivered to single sex year groups. Boys play rugby, hockey and cricket, whilst girls play hockey, netball, rounders and tennis. Physical Education activities include gymnastics, dance, athletics, swimming, short tennis, cross-country, badminton, basketball, HRE and many others.
In Year 3, pupils have two hours a week of Physical Education. Year 4 and 5 pupils also have two hours of physical education a week but are also fortunate enough to have a two hour games afternoon every fortnight. Year 6 have Physical Education two hours a week and have a games afternoon every week where they can take part in sports coaching or second games options.
