1st XI v The Mitres

Saturday saw the first cricket match of the delayed 2020 season for the 1st XI who hosted the Mitres on the Bishop’s field. The match consisted of seven 1st team debutants who all made a significant contribution. CSL also welcomed back Priyansh Jha (2013-2019) and Adam Khattak (2013-2019) who were elected as co-captains of 2020 season but unfortunately missed out on playing during their final year. CSL bowled first, reducing the Mitres to 144 off 30 overs. The pick of the bowlers were Ollie S (Year 12) who picked up three wickets (including Mr Barrington), Priyansh Jha with two wickets, and a steady few overs from Tom E (Year 12), Ben E (Year 11) and Abhay A (Year 11) who picked up a wicket each. CSL’s batting display was a mixture of patience, power and prowess with an outstanding knock from skipper Heath W (Year 13) on debut with 52 not out, and recent leaver Adam Khattak who blasted a quick 32. Despite their 61 partnership, the Mitres did very well to make the game go to the penultimate over which resulted in Ben E (Year 11) scrambling a quick single to win the game with one ball to spare. It was a great game for all involved and very pleasing to have competitive sport back at CSL.
