Success in Speech and Debate

Senior pupils have recently celebrated impressive success in both public speaking and debating, competing with confidence in highly competitive regional events.

At the Regional Finals of the Business and Professional Women’s Public Speaking Competition in Bristol, two CSL teams delivered assured and professional performances. Team One, consisting of Elizabeth B (Speaker), Amog M-B (Chairperson) and Max C-T (Expressor of Thanks), secured first place, praised for the clarity, poise and cohesion of their presentation. They now progress to the National Finals in Birmingham.

Team Two, consisting of Hannah A, Patrick M and Sam C, also performed strongly, speaking with confidence and composure in a demanding field and earning positive feedback from the judges.

Meanwhile, four Year 10 teams represented the School in a regional heat of the Oxford Schools' Debating Competition, one of the largest schools’ debating competitions in the world. Competing against mainly older pupils, CSL pupils tackled challenging motions with increasing assurance. One team finished fourth overall, narrowly qualifying for Finals Day — an outstanding achievement.
