Chess Championships
24 June 2025
Following their successful defence of the Welsh Schools Chess Championship title earlier this year, the CSL Chess Team proudly represented Wales at the British Team Chess Championships, held at Nottingham University.
Competing against top-performing schools from across the UK, our team demonstrated skill, resilience and true sportsmanship throughout the event. Even during the three-hour journey, the pupils could be found solving chess puzzles and discussing tactics, clearly committed to giving their all. Undeterred by initial setbacks, they continued to support one another and adapt their strategies. Their persistence paid off in round four, where the momentum shifted. The final two rounds featured several outstanding victories, including some brilliantly executed checkmates, securing them a commendable 12th-place finish.
With two consecutive Welsh Championships under their belt and back-to-back strong performances at the British level, the CSL Chess Team has much to be proud of. We look forward to next year's challenge and the potential for a championship hat-trick, as well as to welcoming and developing the next generation of keen chess players at CSL.
