Darwin Day

06 February 2009
Darwin Day

Charles Darwin, one of the most distinguished scientists of the Victorian age was born on February 12th 1809.  We will be holding a ‘Darwin Day' (one day early!) to celebrate the bicentenary of his birth and 150 years since the publication of his seminal work ‘On the Origin of Species'.

All the pupils up to Year 8 will spend the day learning about Darwin's life and work including various practical activities. A falconer will be talking to all the pupils about the adaptation of birds of prey to their environment.

Every pupil will receive a bookmark with details of exhibitions and web links about Darwin.  We hope that everyone enjoys the day and that it teaches pupils about this monumental figure in Science who revolutionised the way we think about the natural world.
