The Cahedral School is listed in today's Times newspaper (30 August 2014) as one of the top performing schools in Wales at GCSE, with 57.4% of grades at A*\A, and an average points per pupil score of 507, the equivalent of nearly 10 A grades per pupil overall. The independent sector once again outperformed the national average for GCSE grades, disproportionately dominating the top grades, particularly in the hardest subjects. The Cathedral School is listed as 74th of the UK's top 230 co-educational independent schools. It is ranked higher than 58 girls-only independent schools in the tables (nationally, girls significantly outperform boys at GCSE in every subject except Maths).

The comparison with other schools in the sector shows the Cathedral School performing amongst the strongest schools in the UK once again.
