House Chess
12 June 2025
Across the three school Houses - Dyfrig, Euddogwy, and Teilo - fifteen Senior pupils compete in this year’s House Chess competition, showcasing impressive talent from Year 7 through to Year 12.
The intense and closely fought matches on Monday served to narrow the field in anticipation of the quarterfinals the following day. The competition culminated in a thrilling final on Thursday between Kristan E (Year 10, Euddogwy) and Govind A (Year 9, Teilo), both of whom were key players on the school team that recently triumphed in the Welsh Championship. Demonstrating an exceptionally high standard of play, their first game ended in a tense, hard-fought draw, while the second saw Kristan unleash a brilliant tactic, sacrificing his rook to secure victory. Ultimately, Euddogwy emerged as champions, with Teilo finishing strongly in second place and Dyfrig securing third.
It is great to see the spirit of chess at CSL flourishing with such enthusiasm and skill.
