Tenth year of exceptional A Level results

Students at The Cathedral School are celebrating an exceptional set of A Level results today with 72% of all grades at A*-A and 89% at A*-B.

The most common grade was A* with 14 students achieving 3 or more A*s reflecting the School’s strong academic ethos and commitment to personal achievement.

83% of university applications were secured at Russell Group universities. Once again, the results are very strong across a wide range of subjects with 16 departments achieving exclusively A*-B, four of which were exclusively A* grades.

Among those achieving the highest possible results, Netball Captain, Katy S and Deputy Head of School, Ana J will study at Oxford, reading English (Christchurch), and French and Spanish (Oriel) respectively. Heading to Cambridge, Faaris A will study Law (Gonville and Caius) and Thomas T-H will read Geography (St John’s). On receiving his results, Faaris, Head of School, member of the debating team and Wales Badminton player said: “I’m so happy with my results and it’s been so good to celebrate today with all of my friends and teachers. Ana added: “I’m so pleased with my results and relieved that I’ve got my place – I’m really looking forward to starting my course. I’m so happy I came here for sixth form. I’ve made amazing friends and I’ve enjoyed all of the opportunities, not just the academic challenge, but also being part of the fantastic sport and music departments and the modern languages debates.”

Joining Ana to study Languages at university are Bethan D at Manchester (Spanish and Portuguese) and Kavin G at King’s College, London (English and German Law), all of whom were members of the successful Modern Languages Debating Team.

Six students will go on to study Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and Dentistry including Heads of House, Evie HJ - Dentistry at Plymouth and Paige W - Veterinary Medicine at Liverpool, as well as Academic and Sports Scholar, Emma W, and Iris L who was recognised for her outstanding commitment to sport and music in her final year at school. Both will read Medicine, Emma at Nottingham and Iris at King’s College London.

Three students have secured places at the London School of Economics - Head of House and member of the 1st XV rugby team, Ted E-O and 1st XI football team player, Ansh A to read Economic History and Sam E to study Finance.

Other top performers who achieved 3 or more A*s include Music Scholar and member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, Nathan C who will study at the Royal College of Music, London, Head of House, Jack S who will read Economics at Bath and Rheanna T and Stephanie W who will study Biochemistry and Biological Sciences respectively at Imperial College London. Head of the Cathedral School, Mrs Clare Sherwood said: “We are incredibly proud of all our Year 13 students. These results are testament not only to their hard work, but also to the outstanding support of our teachers.

“Ten years on since our first set of A Level results, the breadth of university destinations and pathways demonstrates the School’s commitment to nurturing the whole person, with many students having balanced their academic studies alongside leadership roles, musical or sporting excellence and significant contributions to the wider community.

“The Class of 2025 leave us not only with excellent results but with the character, confidence and curiosity to thrive in the world beyond the Cathedral School. We wish them every success in their exciting next steps.”
