Women and Girls in Cricket Conference

During half term, CSL was invited by Cricket Wales to attend the Inaugural Women and Girls in Cricket Conference at Sophia Gardens.

It was an inspirational event which celebrated how far the women and girls’ game has come and hearing from a range of insightful keynote speakers and panellists created excitement about what lies ahead. We were delighted that Year 10 pupil, Rosemary E, who is a member of the Glamorgan Academy EPP and plays for Glamorgan Girls U15 was at the event as ambassador for Maiden Cricket, which provides performance-driven women and girls' cricket kit.

Discussing what she enjoyed most about the event, Rosemary said: “I enjoyed the range of stands and talks, and that all speakers and most of the audience were women! I also liked the focus that the speakers gave to issues that specifically relate to women in sport."

In her role as ambassador for Maiden Cricket, Rosemary helps to recommend their kit to her club and raise awareness of difficulties around wearing whites and boys’ or men’s kit. She added: “This is important to me as I grew up playing in boys’ teams and understand how unfitted kit can make you feel uncomfortable and left out.”

Talking about her role model, Rosemary said: “My cricket role model is Sarah Taylor as she was a batter-keeper like me and was part of the English World Cup winning squad in 2017 that helped kickstart the growth of women’s cricket in England and Wales.

Thank you to Cricket Wales for inviting us along - we look forward to seeing how the opportunities for girls in cricket and sport generally develop.
