Curious Minds on the Move

Curious Minds on the Move

Our Primary pupils’ curiosity has been piqued this week as they took their learning beyond the classroom, giving them the chance to deepen their understanding through real-world discovery.

Year 2 embarked on an Antarctic adventure to Cardiff Bay to launch their new Ice topic, following on from their studies of Fire. Their fact-finding trip began with a walk to the barrage, where they learned about Captain Scott’s historic Terra Nova expedition to Antarctica. They then boarded a boat from Mermaid Quay, setting sail from the very spot where the Terra Nova departed in 1911, and imagined what it might have been like to journey all the way to the South Pole.

Meanwhile, Year 4’s Science topic, Food Chains, was brought to life during a trip to Plantasia Tropical Zoo in Swansea. Surrounded by rainforest sights and sounds, pupils discovered fascinating creatures including leopard cats, meerkats, Caiman crocodiles and marmosets. A hands-on workshop helped them explore key concepts such as producers and apex predators, and the highlight of the day came when they were able to handle a giant African land snail, a crested gecko and even a corn snake.
