Year 6 visit Cardiff Castle
Over the past two weeks, Year 6 have visited Cardiff Castle, stepping back in time to explore the history of World War II.

The guides brought the era to life through fascinating discussions about key wartime events and the experiences of those on the Home Front. The pupils learned about the vital role women played, as well as the challenges of rationing, evacuation, and surviving air raids. Their journey through history continued as they explored the museum exhibits. Pupils also enjoyed engaging with the interactive displays and even had the chance to try on a variety of military uniforms, which added an exciting, hands-on element to the experience.

Another highlight was walking between the castle walls, which served as air raid shelters during the Blitz. The dimly lit tunnels, filled with evocative wartime displays, gave the pupils a powerful sense of what it was like for those seeking refuge during bombings. The most memorable moment, however, was handling authentic artefacts (soldiers’ uniforms, helmets, and even weapons), which helped them truly appreciate this significant period in history and the realities of war.
