This week, Year 3 set off on a journey to the legendary Stonehenge - and what an adventure it was!
From the moment they arrived, they were blown away by the sight of the enormous stones rising from the ground like ancient giants. As the pupils walked around the monument, they couldn’t help but wonder: How did people move such huge stones thousands of years ago? Were they super strong? Did they have secret tools? The mystery made it all the more magical.
Their time-travelling adventure continued at the nearby ancient burial mounds, called barrows. Here, they stepped into the shoes of our Stone Age ancestors and reenacted a traditional burial. It was a brilliant way to bring history to life, and definitely a highlight of the day!
Next, the pupils explored the interactive museum, where they got hands-on with history, discovering how Stonehenge was built, what it might have been used for, and what life was like in prehistoric times. The recreated Stone Age houses were especially fun, and they got to peek inside and see how people cooked, crafted and kept warm during chilly times (no central heating back then!).
The pupils came back full of curiosity and stories to share.
